Canadian Alex Dumas piloted his Orange Brigade / JP43 Training KTM RC390R to victory in the Liqui Moly Junior Cup class at this weekend’s combined MotoAmerica WorldSBK race at the Weathertech Raceway at Laguna Seca.
Starting from third place on the grid, Dumas jumped into the lead but saw series rival Ashton Yates overtake him for the lead early in the race. With Yates at one point leading by more than three seconds, Dumas was steadily cutting into this lead when a red flag on lap eight forced a restart.
Yates grabbed the holeshot to lead the shortened five-lap race, however he crashed out in corner ten of the first lap, while trying to hold off a challenge from Dumas. Dumas would go on to win the race.
Coming into the race, Dumas held a slim two-point margin over Yates in the championship standings, but with Yates failing to collect any points, Dumas leaves California with a 26-point lead over his nearest challenger.
In MotoAmerica Supersport action, Alberta’s Braeden Ortt looked poised for another solid result after qualifying in sixth position, however a crash in turn two of lap eight while challenging for fifth place removed him from contention.
